A wooden bowl carved from a single piece of wood, made by the Hutu people of Rwanda before the 1800s.
Three original repairs are visible, where cracks from years of use were mended with iron plates from that era.
This is not merely a repair for damage, but a unique African cultural reinforcement technique to imbue tools with spirit and pass them down through generations.

The lathe marks running along the outer circumference, the deep dark brown patina on the inside, and the large patch at the bottom center all tell the story of a life spent handling fermented beverages and grains.
